Happy New Year!

As I begin this entry, my heart is pounding with excitement. Our church will be starting our prayer and fasting for the year 2016. I’ve also seen this excitement with some of my friends. Many have shared their prayer points and faith goals. They are in full anticipation of another year being with God. During the course of singing worship songs to the Lord, I was led to the verse from 1st John 5:4-5

For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

I was reminded that the Lord Jesus didn’t only bring salvation but His sacrifice on the cross and victory over death won us our future battles. The year 2016 has already been decided. God holds the outcome of this year and He has emerged victorious over it.

This is the revelation for us. Whatever things will come our way in this new year, God has already won it for us. He has already battled and has conquered it. There is already an assurance of His sovereignty and might in our situations. Isn’t this comforting? Yes, it is!

In response to this, we pray and fast. The primary reason that we do this disciplines is not to beg or ascertain our future. We do this to behold the beauty of God, to be awed by His greatness. We undergo this to remember who are Lord is. The ability to believe and live in faith or obedience is dependent on how much we abide in the Lord. We can declare greater things because we know/believe the object of our faith, Jesus Christ!

You have to believe that God holds everything in our lives. He knows what’s eternally best for us! God has our 2016 mapped out! And surely, He has already declared victory in our season. With this, I encourage you to devote your best time of the year to seek the Lord through prayer and fasting. These disciplines position us to receive from God. It positions us to hear His voice, understand His heart, and to act in faith through obedience.

The God we serve is more than willing to reveal Himself to those who thirst and hunger for Him. He our Father in Heaven who orders and secures His children without fail.

Let’s all prepare to encounter the living God and receive Him.

To the one reading this, it’s my prayer that you’ll have a personal encounter with God as you begin this year. May you receive and know His directions in your life. I also pray that you’d feel Him empower you to move in obedience and conquer every character-bulding tasks ahead of you. Most importantly, may you feel His loving heart towards you and see His approving eyes as you come and worship Him. God bless you.
